Awards - Heart of District Smith 2016-17

Always busy, PDG Pete Smith (Rotary Club of Port Hawkesbury) is the 2015-16 recipient of the District 7820 Heart of the District Award. The presentation was made at the Governors's Gala banquet at the District Conference on May 14th by DG Jim Goit.
The Heart of the District Award is given to a PDG who provided great service to the District during their year as District Governor and who continues to contribute in an outstanding way to the work being carried out by District 7820.
After returning from an NID in Cameroon and having seen the condition of the hospitals and clinics in that country, Pete decided to do something.  Since then he has continued to arrange shipments of containers of hospital and miscellaneous medical equipment to Cameroon (now working on number 16) and he has also been responsible for shipping several rebuilt school buses to the country.
Pete has also designed and built a mold for a water purifier for use in Cameroon.
Pete has been awarded one of the highest offices (Honourary Chief)  and has been given a piece of land in Cameroon where he plans to build a small community center.
Pete Smith is deserving of the Heart of the District Award.  Congratulations Pete.
